Best EV Road Trip Regions

EV road trips are not equal everywhere. Infrastructure density, terrain, climate, and distance between chargers vary dramatically by region. Here is an honest assessment of where EV road trips work well today.

West Coast corridors

I-5 from Seattle to San Diego, Highway 101, and Bay Area to Tahoe routes have the densest charging infrastructure on the continent. EV road trips here are genuinely practical with basic planning.

Northeast corridor

I-95 from Boston to Washington DC has improving but uneven coverage. Winter range reduction is significant. Plan carefully and verify station status before departure.

Cross-border routes

Seattle to Vancouver and Detroit to Toronto work with planning. Charging networks differ across the border; confirm both US and Canadian station availability for your route.

Regions that need more time

Rural Texas, mountain routes in the Rockies, and remote Canadian corridors still have charging gaps that make EV road trips impractical for many drivers. Check current infrastructure maps before committing.
