Car Week opens Friday. Before you chase the 75th Pebble Beach Concours lawn, sort free street shows from ticketed race days and decide where the car sleeps.
MONTEREY — Monterey Car Week is four days away. The lawn can wait. The calendar cannot.
The peninsula stack runs Friday, August 7, through Sunday, August 16. Downtown kickoff cruise-in. Pre-Reunion and Corkscrew Hillclimb at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. Charity shows on Ocean Avenue. Auctions behind velvet ropes. The 75th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on the 18th fairway.
One badge will not cover it. Ten days of free and ticketed events share the same Highway 1 air.
If you are driving down from the Bay Area, treat tonight like trip logistics, not Instagram. Hotels from Monterey to Carmel Valley went to people who booked in spring. Parking fills from Seaside to Pacific Grove by midweek.
Decide now whether you are buying Laguna Seca race days, chasing free roadside viewing, or both.
Friday’s official kickoff runs 5 to 7 p.m. downtown Monterey with a classic cruise-in, food, and family programming. Saturday and Sunday open the Monterey Pre-Reunion at Laguna Seca, including Saturday’s Corkscrew Hillclimb that sends historic cars up the famous drop in reverse.
That is the warm-up. The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion fills the track Wednesday through Saturday with more than 400 historic race cars.
For Asian American and Asian Canadian households that treat Car Week as culture more than concours cosplay, 2026 still points hardest at Laguna Seca. Japanese motorsport is the Reunion’s featured marque, with a first-time JDM Legends display on Friday and Saturday race days.

The free undercard is real if you plan it. Concours for a Cause lines Ocean Avenue in Carmel on Tuesday. The Little Car Show fills Lighthouse Avenue in Pacific Grove on Wednesday.
Legends of the Autobahn and the Ferrari Owners Club Concours land Thursday. Werks Reunion Monterey on Friday is still one of the best no-ticket Porsche crowds on the peninsula. Concours d’LeMons on Saturday remains the anti-lawn: Worst in Show, Swedish Meatballs class humor, zero tuxedo tax.
Thursday morning is the public’s best unpaid Pebble Beach moment. The Tour d’Elegance sends Concours entrants out along Highway 1 and the peninsula before they return to the golf course.
Arrive early on Portola Road if you want owners and restorers, not just Instagram zoom lenses. Concours Village and RetroAuto stay free spectator stops later in the week even if Sunday’s fairway ticket is out of reach.
Sunday, August 16, is the 75th Concours. Special classes lean into Pebble Beach road-racing history, Ferrari, Vignale coachwork, Japanese motorsports, streamliners, and early American speedsters.
Organizers say the Concours has raised more than $45 million for local charities since 1950 and hopes to clear $50 million with this anniversary year. That is the lawn story. The week is bigger than Sunday.
Auctions will still move serious money: Gooding Christie’s inside the 17-Mile Drive gates, RM Sotheby’s downtown, Mecum at Del Monte, Broad Arrow at The Quail. Treat those as spectator sport unless you already have a paddle and a wire transfer ready.
The Quail itself on Friday remains the garden-party bottleneck. Japanese GTs are among the featured categories this year, but tickets are not a walk-up fantasy.
