Kia's U.S. Hybrid Mix Hits Nearly 30% as Telluride HEV Carries Q2

Kia posted record quarterly revenue while U.S. hybrid sales jumped 151.6% to 66,000 units — nearly 30% of American volume — as Telluride Hybrid, Seltos Hybrid, and Carnival hybrids did the driveway work.

SEOULKia's second-quarter story is not another EV manifesto. It is a hybrid spreadsheet that finally matches what I see in suburban parking lots from Buena Park to Edison.

The company reported record quarterly wholesale sales of 851,639 units and record revenue of 33.037 trillion won, up 12.6% from a year earlier. Operating profit fell 4.9% to 2.6285 trillion won as tariffs and incentives chewed the margin, but the mix underneath the headline is the part that matters for buyers.

In the United States, Kia sold 224,000 vehicles in the quarter, up 2.8%. Hybrid sales there hit 66,000 units, up 151.6% year over year, and accounted for 29.6% of Kia's U.S. volume. Globally, hybrid retail reached 178,000 units, up 61%, helped by new Telluride Hybrid and Seltos Hybrid launches plus volume hybrids already in the driveway: Sportage, Sorento, and Carnival.

That is the Eastward read. Full battery-electric still grows in Korea and Western Europe for Kia. In America, the payment that survives a household conversation is increasingly a hybrid three-row or compact SUV, not a public-charging lifestyle.

Telluride is the flagship proof point. Kia says it will expand annual U.S. Telluride capacity, including hybrid, to protect profitability. The Sportage Hybrid built at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America is scheduled to begin customer deliveries in the second half. A Mexico-built EV3 is also aimed at the U.S. later this year, which keeps a pure EV lane open without pretending hybrids are temporary.

Electrified vehicles overall — hybrids plus EVs — reached 296,000 units in the quarter, up 60%, and 35.3% of Kia's sales mix. EV volume jumped 88.4% to 110,000 units on newer mass-market models abroad. The U.S. chapter of that story is still written in hybrid ink.

For Asian American and Asian Canadian households already cross-shopping a Carnival Hybrid against a Sienna, or a Telluride Hybrid against a Highlander Hybrid and Palisade, the earnings call is confirmation, not revelation. Relatives who never trusted early EVs still recognize a hybrid badge. Dealers still have inventory logic. Insurance quotes still land in a familiar band.

Canada shoppers should treat the U.S. mix as direction, not a copy-paste. Tariff and incentive math differ north of the border, and cottage or winter miles still punish fragile charging plans. The useful question is the same: which powertrain fits the week you actually drive.

Before anyone treats nearly 30% hybrid share as a brand loyalty test, run the payment. Start with our hybrid versus EV monthly calculator and when the hybrid premium pays off. Three-row shoppers can compare seats and doors in Carnival versus Sienna versus Odyssey and the Asian family SUV shortlist.

Kia's quarter was record revenue with softer profit. The driveway lesson is sharper: in the U.S., Kia's growth engine right now is hybrid volume you can fill at any gas station, not a press-kit EV timeline.
